For many years, food safety has been one of the biggest concerns for the agro-food sector and its professionals. This has made it possible for us to enjoy the best food safety in history, although sometimes the perception of the consumer differs from this reality, something to which negligence or occasional fraud can contribute, generating an understandable social alarm.
To analyse these issues, the General Council of Agricultural Engineers and Graduates has organised the event "Food Safety: challenges and trends" in the framework of the upcoming edition of Fruit Attraction, which will take place on 18 October, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the Forum Innova, in Hall 10 of Ifema.
The meeting will start with the presentation "Food safety: communication, perception and future challenges", by José Miguel Mulet, PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology at the UPV. Mulet will analyse where the focus of attention should be in the field of food safety and what the major threats may be in the near future.
Next, there will be a round table moderated by the agro-food journalist Íñigo Inchusta, which will count with the participation of Sabas Alegre, director of the food safety consultancy TQM; Manuel Berenguer, agricultural engineer and adviser in hydroponic cultivation; Benigno Santiago Álvarez-Palencia, agricultural engineer and lawyer, expert in food fraud; Regina Monsalve, president of the ITA College of Valencia and Castellón, specialised in agroecology; and Joaquin Fuentes-Pila, PhD in agricultural engineering and co-director of the Food Quality Management Master at the UPM. The meeting will be broadcast live via streaming via the Council's website, agricolas.org, and its social media pages.
This is the third consecutive year that the Council of Agricultural Engineers participates in Fruit Attraction with its own stand, which this year will be located in Hall 6, stand 6F03. To complement its presence in this sectoral event, the Council always organises conferences and events of interest to the agro-food sector, such as an event on food safety. Thus, this professional group contributes to the visibility of the important work carried out by agricultural engineering professionals in the production, processing and marketing of food.
