The premium vine tomatoes of Royal Pride from Middenmeer (the Netherlands) were voted Product of the Year by German consumers. The Dutch tomatoes, which are available under the German brand name "Markttag Premium", were judged on presentation, user-friendliness and value for money. Producer and sales organization Harvest House is very happy with this foreign award.
Around 31,500 German supermarket customers voted online for a total of 172 products in 32 categories. Markettag's Dutch cherry tomatoes were one of the four award winners and the top product in the 'vegetables, spices and herbs' category. In addition to the direct product features, the respondents could also indicate whether they want to buy the item and would recommend it. The vine tomatoes from Royal Pride were rated very well here also.
"Awarding our cooperation"
Producer organization Harvest House from Maasdijk -which delivers the tomatoes directly to the German market- was positively surprised by the price as well. "Our producer Frank van Kleef of Royal Pride has been producing tomatoes for the German market for about 10 years, including Netto-Süd, and this award is not only a token of appreciation, but also a culmination of our long-term cooperation and expertise," said a Harvest House spokeswoman.
Sustainable production
The producer Royal Pride from Middenmeer (NH) is one of the most important growers in the premium greenhouse tomatoes segment. On around 52 ha, the visionaries Frank van Kleef, Koert and Bart van den Ende are producing the sweet cherry tomato ‘Robino’. Furthermore, Frank van Kleef is one of the faces behind Milieukeur and Planetproof, the sustainable quality mark he developed in collaboration with Milieudefensie and his colleagues at Harvest House. In its own greenhouse complex, much attention is also paid to sustainable production: saving energy and environmentally friendly production methods are of prime importance.
