The Chinese Customs Office recently announced the no. 30 "Announcement regarding the quarantine demands for import of refrigerated fruit from the Philippines". This announcement supplements the Quarantine Demands for Import of Refrigerated Fruit from the Philippines, which permits the import of refrigerated bananas, pineapples, and mangoes from the Philippines to China.
The Philippines currently have permission to export four kinds of fresh fruit into China: pineapples, bananas, mangoes, and papayas. The permission to export three kinds of refrigerated fruit applies to fruit from the production areas that already have permission to export fresh fruit to China.
The Philippines is next to Ecuador the second country with permission to export refrigerated bananas into China, but also the first country with permission to export refrigerated pineapples and mangoes into China.
Refrigerated durian have become an emerging product in the Chinese market. The durian is mainly imported from Malaysia and Thailand. The refrigerated durian are quite ripe. Refrigerated durian has become more visible following the growing popularity of fresh durian in China. It remains to be seen whether refrigerated pineapples, bananas, and mangoes from the Philippines can secure their place in the Chinese kitchen.
