Due to phytosanitary problems with products from the republics of Belarus and Serbia, Russian watchdog ‘Rosselkhoznadzor’ decided to inspect the process of storing apples in these two countries.

"On the eve of the end the apple harvest, in order to avoid products with an unclear phytosanitary status entering the Russian market, Rosselkhoznadzor will inspect the process of storing apples produced in the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Serbia,” a statement read.

Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor officials conducted inspections of mushroom producing enterprises in the Republic of Belarus. The department noted the expediency of these measures, and specialists will use a similar approach when checking the apples, intended for export to Russia.

On September 21th, the department banned the import to Russia of two batches of apples, coming from Belarus through the Nevelsk district (Pskov region), accompanied by invalid phytosanitary certificates.

The first consignment of fruit weighing 11,026 tons came from the Gomel region of the Republic of Belarus. The second batch, of 19 tons, also came from the Gomel region, from the Brilevo company.
