Export price of Chinese garlic beginning to stabilize

Zoom in font  Zoom out font Published: 2018-11-07
Core Tip: The garlic harvest season in Jinxiang County has already finished.
"The garlic harvest season in Jinxiang County has already finished. The warehouses are almost fully stocked. The overall production volume increased by around 25% in comparison with last year because the surface area devoted to garlic plantation increased this year as did the production volume per hectare." This is according to Kevin of Qingdao Sinonut International Ltd.

"The increased production volume means that the price of garlic is currently slightly lower than it was in the same period last year, but overall the price is relatively stable. Market demand, however, is not that strong, and the volume of garlic stored in warehouses is relatively large. After Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019], the price of garlic will decrease. As for product quality, most of the new harvest consists of medium-quality garlic. The volume of top-quality garlic is relatively small."

"Many overseas traders still have stock left from last year as the global garlic market is not strong, so their desire to purchase new stock is weak. Furthermore, several other garlic producing countries are steadily eating away at China's global market share. Take the garlic market in Brazil, for example, where traders gradually shift to import from Argentine where the garlic harvest season began in early November."

"Our company is located in Jinxiang, the hometown of garlic. We have our own plantations and sell our garlic under our own registered brand as well as client brands. We export garlic to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and South America."
