This decision was taken on Monday at a meeting presided over by PFA Director General Muhammad Usman. The provincial food regulatory body has divided juices into six categories on the basis of the quantity of fruit contained within them. Usman said that carbonated and non-carbonated drinks, sold in the market with fruit names, did not maintain the nutritional levels of the various fruits.
The Director General said that fruit beverages and drinks should at least consist of fruit ingredients for 8 percent or more. It will now become compulsory for companies to mention the quantities of the ingredients on the packaging of fruit drink beverages.
The PFA solved 2,155 cases of different food-related issues at its Headquarters during last the two months that were referred to them from different districts of Punjab.
