Majestic Meat Company of Salt Lake City, Utah is recalling about 532 pounds of ground beef because it may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with this recall.

The Majestic Meat Company ground beef, ground patties, and meatball produts that are being recalled were produced on November 8, 2018. You can see the long list of recalled products at the USDA website. The recalled products are sold under the brand names Majestic Meat AND 44 FARMS. They include Ground Beef Patties 80/20, bulk Ground Beef 80/20, Beef Patty Chuck 80/20, and Meatball Beef, Pork, Veal Ground.

USDA inspectors identified that product associated with a sample that tested positive for E. coli O157:Hy7 had been shipped. The establishment held 2 of the 3 goes of source material that were associated with the sample, but the third box was processed and shipped.

If you purchased any of these recalled products, don’;t eat them, even if you plan to cook them first. Cross-contamination can occur between this raw ground beef and other surfaces in your kitchen. Throw the product away in a secure garbage can, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Symptoms of an E. coli O157:H7 infection include severe abdominal and stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea that is typically bloody or watery. People usually start feeling sick a few days to a week after consuming food that is contaminated with this pathogen. Children under the age of five with this infection can develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is a type of kidney failure. Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor immediately.
