According to an article on iqonsulting.com, the 2018 avocado export year has ended with the latest shipments recorded in week 45. In line with the marked rising trend in the exports, this campaign presented a new record figure; 308.660 exported tons between January 1st and November 18th. A 25% increase compared to the previous campaign, in line with the average yearly grow rate of the decade, 24%

In the last decade, the main destination markets for the Peruvian avocados are the United States and the European Continent (minus U.K. and Russia), The shipments to both markets represent more than ¾ of the total exports. However, the share of these markets is decreasing, giving space to new destination markets.

One of the most important new destination for the Peruvian avocados is Chile, despite being a producer country with a high internal consumption, between 30% and 40% according to official sources.

In 2015, the avocado exports to this country increased due to the good market situation in Europe and low Chilean production, which led to a low internal supply and high prices in the internal market. This market gap was supplied by Peru. By the end of the year, the Peruvian avocado exports to Chile were 8.348 tons, a 205% increase compared with the previous year. In the following years, the exports decreased a bit due to the higher level of Chilean supply in the market, due to greater production.

However, during the 2017/18 season, a major portion of the Chilean supply was exported in the first months of the season (August, September and October 2017), which made the exports of the first part of 2018 very low. This, combined with a record avocado production in Peru, made the exports from this country to Chile in 2018 to reach a new record of 18.527 tons, 203% more than the previous year.
