Nestlé entered the field of A2 protein milk powder, the market melee is beginning to emerge

On November 27, Nestlé launched its first A2 beta-casein mother's milk powder in China, becoming another dairy giant to enter the A2 milk market after a2, Sanyuan, Mengniu and Wyeth. 

According to Nestlé, it took only nine months for this A2 beta-casein mother's milk powder to come out. It came from the United States and was produced by filling in China. Nestlé helped to isolate the A2 gene in American pastures. The price was no more than 200 yuan per can. As early as in March this year, Nestlés’ Wyeth has launched A2 protein infant formula, which is regarded by the media as the biggest competitor of New Zealand's A2 milk company.

In recent years, New Zealand A2 Milk Company has become the biggest brand and beneficiary of A2 milk products by virtue of its function publicity and the promotion of China's Haitao Dairy Delivery. In fiscal year of 2016, a2's sales in China amounted to NZ$38.2 million, an increase of more than 800% year on year. In fiscal year of 2018, the revenue of A2 in China increased to NZ$88.9 million.

A2 company’s performance continued to turn red, also let other dairy enterprises smell business opportunities. In June 2017, Sanyuan Food introduced pure milk products containing only A2 protein through the system of dairy cattle blood traceability and gene screening. In January 2018, Mengniu introduced A2 protein children's milk. In March 2018, Nestlés’ Wyeth launched the Atwo series of infant formula milk powder containing A2 protein.

Du Size, product innovation manager of Nestlé (China) Co., Ltd., told about the launch of A2 protein milk powder for mothers, mainly because of the consideration of nutritional balance of mothers during pregnancy and childbirth, rather than occupying a position in the A2 milk market. Nestlé does consider introducing A2 infant formula at present, but has not yet put forward specific plans. He also believes that the industry is currently focusing on the A2 milk market, hoping to find market opportunities, but the core issue is how to isolate the A2 gene in dairy cows in the short term and ensure the continuous supply of milk, which is not easy.
