According to an analysis carried out by Hortoinfo based on data from the Estacom statistical service (Icex-Tax Agency), Spanish melon exports have decreased by 29.2% from the 2018/2019 campaign to the 2022/2023 campaign that just ended, which means the country has ceased to export 131.33 million kilos.
More than half of that decrease is due to the reduction in purchases from the countries that buy the most melon from Spain. In that period the United Kingdom has reduced its purchases of melon from Spain by 24.09 million kilos (-41.3%), France by 33.06 million (-28.3%), the Netherlands by 14.5 million kilos (-26.7%), and Germany by 20.1 million kilos (-19.9%).

In the 2022/2023 campaign, Spain exported 318.52 million kilos of melons. Almost 3 out of 10 melons, i.e. 26.34%, were destined for France, which acquired a volume of 83.91 million kilos for 83.53 million euro, at an average price of one euro per kilo.
Germany was the second destination after purchasing 80.95 million kilos of Spanish melons for 75.57 million euro, at an average price of €0.93/kg.
It was followed by the Netherlands with 39.76 million kilos worth 31.14 million euro, and an average price of €0.78/kg.
