According to EastFruit analysts, Ukraine has exported dessert apples to five different countries in the Middle East for the first time, and although the total volume exported to these destinations is relatively small (only 111 tons), it is a positive development in Ukraine's on-going search for new markets.
In September, Ukrainian apples were imported by companies from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt and Iraq. Importers from Qatar paid the highest price, about $ 1 per kg, but this price also included the delivery and packaging. Buyers from the UAE paid almost the same. The cheapest price was paid by Iraqi importers.
The main buyers of Ukrainian apples remained the EU countries. Nine EU countries imported batches of Ukrainian dessert apples in September 2018. Ignoring the apples intended for processing into concentrate, the largest importer among the EU countries was Sweden, where 140 tons of apples were shipped. In general, in the EU, according to EastFruit estimates, about 300 tons of dessert apples were exported in September.
Despite the high export activity of Ukrainian producers, analysts of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA) say that apple exports remain unsatisfactory. Therefore, at the invitation of the UPOA, 10 major importers of apples from the EU, the Middle East and Asia will arrive in Ukraine on December 4-6 to participate in the conference "Vegetables and Fruits of Ukraine 2018: vector for export." They will also attend the export trade forum, which will be held within the framework of this event.
