Food testing company Equinox Labs will be imparting food safety and hygiene training (FoSTaC) to about 25 vendors in the Khau Galli of Mulund, Mumbai, on November 30, 2018. It is along the lines of the training imparted to their counterparts in Ghatkopar’s Khau Galli.

These training programmes are a part of the Eat Right Movement, launched by FSSAI, the country’s apex food regulator, in a bid to create awareness about the importance of eating right and safe food.

Of late, there have been outbreaks of a number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among the youth and the elderly. In the wake of these, the regulator has launched this initiative, which will address three issues, namely Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Fortified.

“The whole idea of conducting such training rooted from the fact that hygiene around such food vendors goes neglected. The reasons of negligence are various and genuine though. Lack of education is most common drawback of street vendors,” said Ashwin Bhadri, chief executive officer, Equinox Labs.

“The training conducted last month enlightened vendors, and thus proved beneficial, and it feels great to be a part of this initiative of ours. We, as a company, will work towards spreading such awareness in all the possible ways,” he added.

Mulund’s Khau Galli opens at about 4.30pm and is open till midnight. There are plenty of vendors who sell different types of food cuisines and attract food lovers. This makes it important for them to assure the customers of their food with proper hygiene practices.

The vendors will also be given gloves and hair masks, and their importance will be explained to them. The minutest contamination found in food shall give rise to food-borne diseases. Thus, by implementing such training programmes, the motive of Eat Right India is also fulfilled.

Equinox Labs is geared up for the event, and their team of auditors will be present to conduct the training. They are expecting the response to be bigger than the previous one, and intend to spread awareness to as many vendors and people around as they can.
