A research project of the University of Coimbra is looking into the therapeutic potential of blueberry leaves in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. The study was developed together with INOV C 2020. INOV C 2020 is a project supported by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), whose main purpose is the development of entrepreneurial and innovative ideas.
“The leaves of blueberries potentially have neuro-regenerative, neuroprotective properties and can be used therapeutically against multiple sclerosis and neurological and mental disorders. The research team is developing new technology to produce phenolic compounds, which have a favourable effect on the nervous system,” the research team told.
