Recently, somebody misused the love that Malaysians have towards the king of fruits by using it to scam people for their money. The ‘Musang King investment plan’ promised low investments with high returns and managed to con 155 victims out of a total of RM 3.1 million (€650,750) over the past four months.
Police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah stated that each victim was given a choice to invest between RM 350 and RM 6,000 (€70-1,200) with a promise of getting more than double the amount over 66 days. “This is promoted widely on social media since August and went active in September.”
The scam was detected after a victim in Melaka made a report after realizing he has been duped by a suspect there. The victim paid RM 8,400 but has not received any returns at all. After the report was made, investigations were undertaken and five suspects have been arrested so far.
Commissioner Omar: “Among the four, one has a previous drug-related criminal record and is a wanted man in Malaysia.” The police believe that more victims will step forward to make a report about the case. Worldofbuzz.com asks Malaysians who received a text or were tagged on social media related to a durian king investment plan, to please report the post to prevent more individuals from falling victim to this heinous scam.
