The average price of Shatang oranges in the Zhengzhou Wanbang Market decreased by 13% last week. The main suppliers of Shatang oranges currently are production areas in Guangxi and Guangdong. The reasons for the price increase are as follows:
1. When Shatang oranges entered the market two weeks ago the sales volume was small and the price therefore relatively high. Although the price was high, the retail volume was small. Consumers bought small volumes for novelty. There was "a high price, but no market." The supply volume of Shatang oranges increased last week and the price then came down.
2. Temperatures began to fall last week, and consumer enthusiasm for fruit then dropped. Fruit retail volumes show an overall decline. Shatang oranges were no exception, and the price then dropped.
3. Traders explain that Shatang oranges arrive on the market at the same time as Fengmi tangerines and Gong tangerines. Many consumers prefer the flavor of Gong tangerines, which leads to a reduced sales volume of Shatang oranges.
The price of Shatang oranges is expected to increase when the supply volumes of Fengmi and Gong tangerines declines.
