Kuwait’s Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) has recommended an extension of the period of strict control on consignments of fruits and vegetables coming from Egypt. The term it has in mind is an additional three months starting from January 25.

In a press release, secretary of the higher council of PAFN, Adel Al-Suweit, stated that the recommendation entails quarantine of all fruits and vegetables coming from Egypt, followed by referral of samples of each consignment to government labs for testing to ensure the product is of the required standard and fit for human consumption.

He also recommended that import consignments undergo all necessary measures, ensuring all consignments have certificates from the country of origin, in addition to certificates on harmful pesticides for fruits and vegetables entering the country.

He reiterated the step taken by the authority was prompted by reports of re-emergence of pesticides on agricultural produce from Egypt, especially the fruits and vegetables.
