On January 31, Ministry the Food and Drug Safety of Korea (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2019-7, amending part of the Food Code. Its main contents are as follows:
1. New standards and specifications for food for the aged.
2. New standards for lead and cadmium in Undaria pinnatifida roots: Revise the standards for lead and cadmium in Undaria pinnatifida roots to enhance the safety management of products containing Undaria pinnatifida roots.
3. Restrict the use conditions of food raw materials: wild hawthorn (Japanese hawthorn) and hawthorn, which may be at risk, are removed from the list of food raw materials. Seabuckthorn seeds can only be used to produce oils and fats with restricted use of raw materials.
4. Revise the residue limits of 12 pesticides such as dichloronitrile.
