Smucker Foods of Canada is planning to invest C$12m ($9m) in its Sherbrooke manufacturing facility in order to modernise and increase production.

The Sherbrooke facility is engaged in the production of Carnation evaporated milk and Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk for Canadian consumers.

Smucker Foods of Canada vice-president and general manager Aurelio Calabretta said: “This investment will go a long way toward solidifying our long-term presence in Sherbrooke.

“Through this initiative, we will be able to introduce new packaging capabilities previously unavailable to us in Canada.”

The renovation is partly supported by the Canadian government under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and the funding will be used by the company to upgrade equipment that will allow the facility to increase its flexibility and variety of products.

Since 1988, Smucker’s has been offering its products in Canada. Currently, it offers a wide range of products under various brands including Bick’s, Carnation, Double Fruit, Eagle Brand, Five Roses, Folgers, Jif, Meow Mix, Milk-Bone, Nature’s Recipe, Robin Hood and Smucker’s.

In September, (JM Smucker) completed the sale of its US baking business to Brynwood Partners VII and Brynwood Partners VIII for $375m.

As per the terms of the agreement, Brynwood Partners VII and Brynwood Partners VIII acquired exclusive US rights to Pillsbury brand’s shelf-stable baking products along with Martha White, Hungry Jack, White Lily and Jim Dandy brands.
