"The price of air-dried ginger exported from China to Europe recently showed a slight increase. There are three main reasons for this development: first, farmers purchase ginger for plantation every year around Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. This creates a brief peak period for ginger demand. Second, the ginger harvest in 2018 suffered from unfavorable weather conditions, which lowered the average product quality of ginger, and severely limited the volume of top-quality ginger. Third, the ginger price in Europe increased, which in turn pushed up the export price of Chinese ginger to higher levels." This is according to Wang Junjie of Henan Jun's Safe Foodstuffs Co., Ltd.
"Some production areas previously suffered from excessive rainfall, which significantly lowered product quality, and resulted in loss from ginger rot. The quality of ginger destined for export is quite stable, but not as good as it was last year."
"Even though the peak period of Chinese ginger export is already over, the enthusiasm of overseas buyers is still great. Chinese exporters are quite satisfied with the purchase orders coming in. We currently export our fresh ginger mainly through Qingdao Port to Italy, Spain, and England."
