The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling Compliments brand Chicken Nuggets for possible Salmonella contamination. There is a Salmonella outbreak in Canada that may be associated with this product. They are made by Sofina Foods.

These products were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Possibly Nationally, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and Yukon at the consumer level.

The recalled product is Compliments Chicken Nuggets – Breaded Chicken Cutlettes – Uncooked in 1.5 kg packages. The code on the outer package is 2019 JL 18, and the code on the inner package is 1998M. The UPC number on the product is 0 55742 33690 0.

Officials think that some of this product may be frozen in consumers’ home freezers. Check your freezer to see if you purchased any of these chicken nuggets. If so, throw them away after first wrapping them in foil or plastic wrap. Place the package in a secure, sealed garbage can so other people and animals can’t access it. You can also return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.

The CFIA is verifying that the product is being removed from the marketplace. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an outbreak of human illness that is associated with frozen, breaded chicken products.

It’s important that these products are cooked thoroughly, not in the microwave oven, to 165°F. The microwave can leave cold spots since it can cook unevenly. It’s also important to be aware of cross-contamination between these uncooked raw chicken products and other surfaces in the kitchen.
