According to the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), pineapple exports increased by 20% and amounted to more than 32 million dollars.
"That is six million dollars or 20% more than in the previous year. In 2017, the country exported 59 thousand metric tons of pineapple," they stated.
Up until November 2018 the country had exported 64 thousand tons of pineapples, a significant difference over the previous year, and there's still one month of data missing, they added.
The northern part of the country is where the largest pineapple production is concentrated. Europe and the United States are the main destinations for this fruit.
Pineapple exports in 2019 are expected to amount to nearly 40 million dollars but they could generate more income than expected due to its constant growth, they added.
