A recent study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health & Ageing, shows that consuming a handful of walnuts daily could enhance cognitive health and slow down the progression of Alzheimers. The study was conducted in China by the China Health Nutrition Survey, which observed some 5,000 people of over 55 years old, for a period of 22 years.

Consuming more than 10g of walnuts a day (the equivalent of two teaspoons) could improve thinking, reasoning and memory by 60%. Walnuts also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties beneficial to cognition.

These nuts are indeed rich in fats, proteins and healthy fibers, with nutritional properties that can help reduce cholesterol. Rich in omega-3, they protect the arteries, slow the ageing of the cells and prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancers.
