UPS Philippines and Indonesia managing director, Chris Buono, said more and more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are contributing to the daily delivery volume of the company. In Davao City alone, small or starting businesses are even partnering with them to export their fresh or processed products in certain countries.

“Majority of Davao’s exports nowadays are fruits such as bananas and pineapples and other fruits going to Japan, China, US, South Korea and Hong Kong. So those are kind of specialty areas. And what I see personally is a growing market of some of hand-made goods so we are working on this with our Air21 partner,” Buono said.

The company has been urging small businesses to expand globally through export activities and assured to provide their clients full visibility of shipments with UPS Quantum View; to manage fulfillment requirements with UPS eFulfillment; to navigate complex export compliance regulations with UPS Customs Brokerage services; and to help gain access to a global network. UPS operates in more than 220 countries and territories and more than 1,800 worldwide operating facilities and 150,000 entry points.

“The SME sector has certainly come a long way, contributing 35 percent of the country’s gross domestic product and employing 70 percent of its workforce and this is expected to continue growing,” UPS Philippines and Indonesia marketing manager Marianne Mendoza said during the SME exporting 101 event on Friday, April 26.

“Our goal is to make it easy for small businesses, tight on resources, to navigate the unfamiliar seas of global commerce. Our products and services are also designed to improve your business performance and streamline your interface with customers,” she added.

In 2018, the delivery volume of UPS reached 5.2 billion packages and documents.
