US-based bakery ingredient manufacturer and distributor Dawn Food Products has completed the acquisition North American flour supplier Ardent Mills.
Financial details of the deal have not been divulged.
As per the terms of the transaction, Dawn Foods acquired Ardent Mills’ mix facility in Burlington, Ontario, as well as the sweet goods business in Canada.
Dawn Foods CEO Carrie Jones-Barber said: “The acquisition of Ardent Mills’ Burlington plant will provide increased access to our industry-leading products for our Canadian customers.
“As we continue to focus our business on bakery ingredients, expanding our capabilities in Canada allows us to deliver our targeted insights, innovations, products and bakery expertise to even more bakeries across the country, empowering them to achieve their aspirations.”
With the completion of the deal, Ardent Mills will continue to supply flour to the facility under Dawn’s ownership.
In May, Ardent Mills announced the closure of four plants by the first-quarter of next year.
The move follows the company’s analysis of current and anticipated demand, as well as to enhance the efficiency of its network.
Effective 30 June, the company will close its plants located in Macon in Georgia, Loudonville in Ohio and Red Lion in Pennsylvania, while its facility in Rush City, Minnesota, will be closed in the first quarter of 2020.
