Nature-based ingredient solutions manufacturer CP Kelco is planning to increase its pectin production capacity by approximately 15% at its facility located in Lille Skensved, Denmark.
CP Kelco’s GENU Pectin, which is produced from citrus peels, is a label-friendly ingredient, which serves as a stabiliser and texturising agent in products such as jams and jellies, yoghurts, dairy desserts and acidified protein beverages.
Additionally, the company said that its pectin portfolio meets non-GMO, vegan and organic standards.
CP Kelco Pectin Platform Strategy senior director Susanne Sörgel said: “Two converging megatrends are driving the demand for pectin: the consumers’ increased desire for dairy and plant-based protein products, and a continued drive towards better-for-you, clean label foods and beverages.
“As a result, the global pectin market is experiencing significant growth and we predict this will continue. This capacity investment at our Denmark plant will strengthen our ability to meet the evolving needs and growth aspirations of our customers worldwide.”
The investment is expected to increase the market supply of low methoxyl amidated (LMA) pectin in 2020.
LMA is used in fruit preparations and drinking yoghurt.
CP Kelco Food Gums Operations senior director Luiz Azzolino said: “With this further expansion of pectin capacity to come online in 2020, we are demonstrating our ongoing commitment to providing a sustainable supply of this important nature-based ingredient into the future.”
In addition to its facility in Denmark, CP Kelco operates production facilities in Limeira, Brazil, and Groβenbrode, Germany.
Last month, CP Kelco announced plans to expand its gellan gum production capacity in the US to meet growing demand.
The company plans to make a significant investment to expand the production capacity of the biogums facility located in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
