According to Georgian Minister of Environment and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili, “2019 will be especially successful for farmers.”
Levan Davitashvili told: ”The tangerine harvest season is entering an intensive phase. This is one of the industrial crops, on which the incomes and economic status of the population of Adjara and Guria (Western Georgia) depend for the most part. Consequently, organizational work is being carried out in Adjara especially actively. As for the current year, it should be noted that we have a quality crop, which directly affects prices. We have good results in diversifying markets. Our main markets are traditionally Ukraine and Russia, although the demand for citrus fruits has grown in Central Asia, Belarus is also interested. The geography of markets is expanding.”
According to the Minister, the government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara provides subsidies in case of urgent need. All resources have been mobilized in order to prevent the problems of the population with the delivery of the crop. Enterprises are in full readiness in order to avoid queues in the process of handing over tangerine.
In the Kobuleti municipality, senior officials examined the reception and processing of citrus fruits LLC Georgian Mandarin and on the spot familiarized themselves with the process of taking citrus fruits. This year, Georgian Mandarin LLC plans to accept about 1,000 tons of standard citrus and process 20,000 tons of non-standard mandarin to make concentrated juice.
To date, 7,900 tons of standard mandarin have already been exported. This year 4 countries have added to the traditional markets (Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan) - Slovenia, Singapore, Lithuania and Qatar.
