The price of Bulgarian pink tomatoes has reached a record level for the season in a large retail chain. The product is sold in trays for 5.99 lev (3.06 Euro). At the same store, a kilogram of pink tomatoes from Turkey costs 3.99 lev (2.04 Euro).
One of the latest weekly bulletins of the State Committee for Commodity Exchanges and Markets shows that in the period from January 27-31, greenhouse tomatoes were traded in bulk for 2.60 lev / kg (1.33 Euro).
The price of imported greenhouse cucumbers is also available. In the Bulgarian chain, Greek cucumbers reached 5.60 BGN / kg (2.86 Euro), while the wholesale price stood at 4.30 BGN / kg.
Bulgarian cucumbers were expected to reach the shelves by mid-February, with the consequent price fall, according to the executive director of the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers / BAPOP / Atanas Kunchev, who is the new deputy mayor in the East region.
He is perplexed about the high price of domestic pink tomatoes and suspects that they are from last year's harvest, harvested on the green, as this year's harvest had yet to start.
