A total of 485 tons of local vegetables were sold through the Qatar Farms and Premium Qatari Vegetables programs in November. Of this, 376 tons were marketed through the Premium Qatari Vegetables program and 109 tons through the Qatar farms initiative. The products are available in major commercial complexes in Qatar, such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour, Al Meera and others, throughout the year.
The two marketing programs are supervised by the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department, in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The programs aim to improve the local marketing methods for Qatari vegetables, increase the demand for locally produced vegetables in the country, reduce production losses to the least possible extent and increase the income of Qatari farmers in a way that encourages increased investment in the agricultural field.
