Jemni Ratan from Dambuk, Arunachal Pradesh is a farmer, who has a history of creating smart innovations. He recently assembled a device for plucking oranges.
The 56-year-old farmer has been facing a lot of issues with regards to plucking oranges from his farm in Arunachal Pradesh as it sits on a slope. The inclined terrain of his farm makes it incredibly difficult to pluck the fruit with the traditional “knife/hook-in-bamboo” method, as he explains “it rolls down the slope.”
Ratan then thought of his new innovation of which while attached to a long stick, can cut and collect the fruits in one go. The assembled device uses a motorcycle lever system which can snip off the ripe fruits right at the tip, without either damaging the branches or harming the food.
