Leading corrugated packaging manufacturers, Durham Box, has recently worked with Harrogate-based STIRRD, a premium online confectionery brand from The Serious Sweet Company, to develop new e-commerce packaging for their gourmet fudge & sweet treats sharer box.

STIRRD was launched in 2019 to provide an online handmade fudge service that can be bought as a monthly subscription or a one-off treat. In developing their packaging, STIRRD approached Durham Box, who came recommended based on quality of product, service and their expert knowledge of the postal box business.

The brief was to produce a suitable e-commerce pack, containing 6 individual boxes of confectionery. The box needed to be able to withstand the rigours of the postal system and protect the contents, while providing the consumer with a memorable moment on receipt. The e-commerce pack was constructed in E flute corrugated board with a Clay Coat outer liner and printed 2-colour flexo inside and out.

“Durham Box quickly understood the brief, made recommendations on materials and finish and were swift to provide samples,” said Rachael Best, brand manager at STIRRD. “As a start-up brand, cost was important to us and they made a number of suggestions that helped us to meet our target price. The box looks great inside and out – in all, a very pain free experience!”

Durham Box’s Paul Barker added: “As packaging has become an extension of a brand for online retailers, it was important to create a great impression with this pack. Fundamentally, people like sharing great experiences they’ve had, particularly if the packaging has played its part. It’s clear from the comments made in the reviews of the ‘STIRRD Sharer’ online that this has been achieved.”

Based in Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, Durham Box service a broad segment of the corrugated packaging market. Named as one of the fastest growing companies in the North East¹, Durham Box make in excess of 40 million products per year from their 120,000 sqm factory. Alongside their well established flexo offering is a Nozomi C18000 single-pass, ultra-high-speed LED inkjet corrugated packaging press, providing Durham Box with the ability to produce short-run, well-designed corrugated boxes, printed with 100% low migration food safe inks.
