The Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd (HPMC), Friday exported a consignment of apples comprising five unique varieties.
The move comes as India is making efforts to promote exports of agricultural and processed food products to newer destinations, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry said in a statement.
The five unique varieties of Himachal apples sent in the first consignment to Bahrain are Royal Delicious, Dark Baron Gala, Scarlet Spur, Red Velox & Golden Delicious. Sourced from the farmers of Himachal Pradesh, these apples are exported by DM Enterprises, registered with APEDA.
The varieties will also be showcased at an apple promotion programme being organised in Bahrain by the Al Jazira Group, a leading retailer, from 15th August, 2021, which also coincides with the beginning of the celebration of India’s 75th year of Independence on the theme, Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the ministry said. The apple promotion programme aims to familiarise the consumers in Bahrain about the different varieties of apples produced in India.
India Sent Mango Consignment To Bahrain In July
India has also been expanding its footprint of mango exports to the newer countries. In July, 2021, in a major initiative taken by the government to boost the mango export potential from the eastern region of India, especially to Middle East countries, a consignment of Geographical Identification-certified Fazli mango variety sourced from West Bengal’s Malda district was exported to Bahrain.
The Fazli consignment was exported by DM Enterprises, Kolkata, and imported by Al Jazira Group, Bahrain. According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, APEDA has been taking measures to boost exports of fruits and vegetables from the “non-traditional regions and states”, by organising virtual buyer-seller meets and festivals to promote mango exports.
Days before sending the mango shipment to Bahrain, APEDA had organised a mango promotion programme in Doha, Qatar. Nine varieties of mangoes, including those from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, were displayed at the stores of the importer, Family Food Centre, at that time.
