EastFruit has recently written about the start of a downward trend in wholesale prices for fresh tomatoes in Uzbekistan. Over the past week, fresh tomato prices have continued to decline, with the average wholesale price of red round tomatoes down 14% and rose tomatoes down 23%.
According to EastFruit price monitoring, from April 14 to April 21, 2023, the average wholesale price for rose tomatoes decreased from 26 000 to 20 000 UZS/kg (from $2.28 to $1.75). Given that their prices have been falling for the second week in a row, from April 7 to April 21, 2023, the average wholesale price for rose tomatoes decreased from 38 000 to 20 000 UZS/kg (from $3.34 to $1.75), almost twice, over the last two weeks. The current wholesale prices approached last year’s levels. As of April 21, 2023, the average wholesale price was 25% higher compared to the same date last year.
Prices for red round tomatoes also continued to decline, although slower than the prices for rose tomatoes. From 14 to April 21, 2023, the average wholesale price for red round tomatoes decreased from 22 000 to 19 000 UZS/kg (from $1.93 to $1.66) – by 13.6% in a week. Considering that they have been falling for the third week in a row, the average wholesale price for red round tomatoes decreased from 36 000 to 19 000 UZS/kg (from $3.15 to $1.66) from March 31 to April 21, 2023 – 1.9 times in the last three weeks.
Unlike rose tomato prices, current wholesale prices for red round tomatoes are almost equal to last year’s levels. As of April 21, 2023, their average wholesale price was only 5.5% higher than the same date last year.
