The 2023 New Zealand onion season is looking very good. As many regions in the world like Europe and Asia are expecting less production.

“Europe and Asia are down 15-20% on volume, so we expect good demand for high quality NZ onions,” said Phil Bird from Integrow Marketing.

“The volume of onions from New Zealand could also be down 10%, so that will only put more upward pressure on demand from New Zealand. We are already fielding many inquiries for NZ onions in 2023, and we expect to export our usual volume of 20,000MT.”

Integrow had a stand at Asia Fruit Logistica this year, which was held in Thailand, it was very opportune as the Thai market had just opened up for New Zealand onions. Phil said it was the best tradeshow ever for them as they had many good leads and are already exporting products based on leads from AFL.

Integrow has been exporting onions and shallots since 1998 from New Zealand, Australia and Holland so have a vast network of contacts.

“Our export markets are mainly Asia and Europe. We sell all sizes, mostly brown onions but some red onions as well. The last three years during Covid have actually been very stable, and business has been good for Integrow.

“Thailand will be a new market for us in 2023, so that will be exciting to develop. From our stand in Asia Fruit Logistica, we were able to make many good contacts with Thai importers. I would like to see Asia Fruit Logistica keep rotating in Asia, say Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong on a 4 yearly cycle, since we get many good new buyers when we have Asia Fruit Logistica in a new city. Unfortunately, this four-year rotation, seems unlikely!”
