Core Tip: A Northern Ireland food firm has been bought by a US corporation, which also acquired another Ireland-based food company in 2009.
Sysco Corporation announced the agreement to buy Crossgar Foodservice on Tuesday, 12 June. Crossgar, based in Co Down, sells meat, poultry, chilled and frozen grocery items across Ireland and the UK from four facilities.

Sysco already owns Pallas Foods in Ireland, but the company stated that the two names will remain in place and continue to exist as separate brands, with their management teams in place.

Mike Green, executive vice-president and group president for Sysco said: “Crossgar Foodservice is a strong company with excellent customer relationships.

“This investment, along with the acquisition of Pallas Foods in 2009, represents our commitment to the Ireland market and provides us additional strategic opportunities.”

The purchase will also allow Crossgar to build on its distribution reach. Chairman of Crossgar Foodservice Gerald Bell said: “The transaction provides the business with a number of benefits – namely enhanced distribution and a wider product choice for our customers.

“We look forward to providing the same great service to our customers and showing them an even broader line of quality-assured foodservice products.”
