Core Tip: Approximately 2.5 million chickens have been infected by an outbreak of the H7N3 avian influenza virus in western Mexico so far. As a result, authorities culled approximately one million birds, The Associated Press reported.
According to Mexico’s Agriculture Department, 129 farms in the western state of Jalisco have been inspected. The avian influenza was confirmed in birds at 24 of the sites, and testing of other flocks is continuing.

Any farms in question have since been placed under quarantine.
