Founded in February 2012, the NCCD is a public-private organization that will be responsible for developing the cold chain in India. Khanna was already India director of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), which was also selected to organize a national seminar for the NCCD on July 17 to develop a strategic work plan for the new group.
The NCCD will be led by a 22-member Governing Council, including government officials, representatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, produce growers, cold chain equipment manufacturers/suppliers, and others involved in the cold chain.
ts agenda includes:
" Providing an enabling environment for the cold chain sector and facilitate private investment in cold chain infrastructure.
" Narrowing the gap in the supply and value chain from farm to fork by improving post-harvest farm storage, developing specialized transportation, and creating cold storage facilities that meet science-based standards.
" Addressing issues such as standards and protocols related to cold chain testing, verification, certification, and accreditation according to international standards.
" Reducing the gap in skilled human resources required for the cold chain sector.
