Core Tip: US Foods announced it has acquired Iowa City, Iowa-based Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution, Inc. The transaction is expected to close in early August. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Hawkeye distribution center in Iowa City will represent the first US Foods distribution center in the state, according to the company. Hawkeye is one of the largest independently-owned broadline foodservice distributors with sales of more than $200 million, US Foods said. Hawkeye serves more than 4,000 customers which include healthcare facilities, schools and restaurants. Jeff Braverman, president of Hawkeye and the third generation to lead the company, will join US Foods as the division president in Iowa.

“Hawkeye is an outstanding company with a deep commitment to food and customer service,” said Keith Knight, central region president, US Foods. “Adding the Hawkeye business to US Foods will enable us to better serve our customers throughout Iowa and expand our presence in this region.”

US Foods is the 10th largest private company in the US with annual revenues of $20 billion. The company’s customer base includes multi-unit restaurants, healthcare and hospital facilities, government and educational institutions.
