Core Tip: India-based Tata Chemicals plans to expand its i-Shakti foods business into newer segments such as flavoured salt, as part of its strategy to focus more on growing its consumer business.
The Tata Group, which is considered to be a leading player in soda ash and sodium bicarbonate segments in India, is now planning to foray into the nutraceuticals business, reported moneycontrol.com.

It is establishing a facility in Chennai, a South Indian city, to produce nutraceuticals used in the foods business. The company is investing INR500m ($9.1m) for this purpose.

The plant will manufacture oligosaccharides and polyols, which will be sold to several food firms. After its Tata Salt, i-Shakti is considered to be its next leading brand and expects this to be its umbrella food brand. The company's focus on nutraceuticals is being driven by its innovation facility in the city of Pune.
