Core Tip: Deputy commissioner Baldev Singh has told farmers that fish farming is a viable option for those living in water logged areas.
"The farmers can earn good profit from their waterlogged fields by adopting fish farming," said Mr Singh, while addressing farmers at a seminar, TimesOfIndia reports.

The fisheries department organised the awareness seminar for farmers in Muktsar on Wednesday.

Mr Singh told the farmers attending the seminar that around 1250 acres of land is available. He also said that the department is organising a five-day training programme for those farmers who are interested in fish farming.

The government is also giving subsidies for starting the business.

Assistant Director Karan Singh informed that for setting up hatcheries for fisheries, the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 1.20 lakh in state and to establish the business the loan up to Rs 3 lakh per hectare is also available from banks.
