Core Tip: US processor Tyson has been forced to recall 70,500 pounds of canned chicken after it was revealed that the products might actually contain beef with gravy.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that the canned products, which were distributed by Tony Downs Foods Company, might also contain the allergen wheat, which was not declared on the canned chicken label.

The incorrectly labelled 12.5oz cans of ‘Tyson Premium Chunk Chicken’ bear the code date of ‘8965 248A 12139’ and have a best-before date of May 18, 2015.

The mistake was discovered after the company received complaints from a customer. FSIS said that there had been “no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products”.
