Core Tip: Ukranian officials have attended ministerial meetings in the US and China recently to discuss enhanced trading relationships and agricultural cooperation.
Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky met with US Trade Representative Ron Kirk in Washington DC earlier this week for the fourth US-Ukraine Trade and Investment Council (TIC) meeting, which covered a range of issues, including agriculture and barriers to bilateral trade.

“In light of the potential for economic growth in both countries, we agreed to continue cooperation to increase bilateral trade and to remove trade barriers between them. Our teams also discussed regulatory, scientific and technical cooperation in agriculture and ways to promote the expansion of trade relations in agriculture and food industry,”
 said a joint statement.

Ukranian Foreign minister Konstyantyn Hryshchenko met with China’s agriculture minister Han Changfu last month to discuss working together on a number of agricultural issues, including animal health.

China and Ukraine have already signed a range of collaboration agreements, and officials said that China is ready to work more closely with Ukraine in several areas to “deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation and exchange”.

Discussions centred around inter-ministerial cooperation, the development of a China-Ukraine Agricultural Park by providing preferential policies for investors and enterprises and strengthened collaboration on animal health.

The meeting was also attended by China’s Ministry of Agriculture chief economist Chen Mengshan, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and Ukrainian Ambassador to China Kostenko Yuri.
