Core Tip: Canadian food processing company Maple Leaf Foods has announced that its facility in Winnipeg has resumed operations after it was temporarily shut down due to a fire in the packaging area.
The fire was contained within one hour. Fire officials opine that the fire started on the roof when hot roofing materials ignited. Maple Leaf Foods noted that insurance adjustors are determining damages, which were largely contained to the electrical system.

The Lagimodiere facility produces cooked hams, back bacon, fresh sausages and value-added ham products

While some areas of the facility, including ham boning operations, have resumed production on their normal schedules, other areas of the plant will require temporary repairs and it is expected to take a minimum of a week to resume production.

The fire did not damage the expansion and work underway to expand bacon processing at the facility will continue, the company said.

Maple Leaf Foods, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, has operations across Canada, the US, the UK, and Asia. The company reported sales of $4.9bn ($4.93bn) in 2011.
