US food and beverage company Del Monte plans to introduce fruit-based packaged snacks in India through FieldFresh Foods - its 50:50 joint venture with India’s Bharti Ventures.

The snacks, which are being launched after six months of field testing, are being targeted at the youth.

The fruit-based packaged snacks would include packaged fruits (apricot, mango and papaya), dried fruits and dried fruit prunes. They will launched over the next six to 12 months and will be priced at INR20 ($0.36) to INR30 ($0.54) for 40g and 50g packs.

In India, the company currently sells packaged fruits such as pineapple slices, peach halves and fruit cocktails in packages starting from 340g. The smaller 40g and 50g packs would be introduced for the first time.

Initially, the snack products would be sold at colleges, schools, office canteens, cafes and railway canteens, reported the Business Standard.

Del Monte also plans to introduce mayonnaise and a range of salad dressings and toppings in India.

FieldFresh Foods is the 50:50 joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Del Monte Pacific. It sells fresh and canned fruit, penne pasta, mango pulp, snack dressing, tomato paste, jalapeno, fruit cocktail and whole corn kernels to bakeries, restaurants and hotels in India.
