Hindus need to have religious food certification similar to Jewish Kosher and Muslim Halal foods, according to Universal Society of Hinduism (USOH) president Rajan Zed.
The Hindu statesman in a statement in Nevada, US, was quoted by merinews.com as saying that Hindus took their diets very seriously and food played a major role in Hinduism.
Hindus had also their own religious dietary laws, similar to the other faiths, noted Zed.
Zed said that foods permissible to all Hindus must be termed as "shuddh" (pure) and could be depicted by capital "S" with a circle around it.
According to him, shuddh food should be free from meat, fish, eggs, alcohol and intoxicants.
Zed also stated that food provided to Hindu consumers in airlines, defence forces, cruises, prisons, dorms should also carry the shuddh symbol, in addition to supplied by manufacturers and retailers.
Zed further noted that Hindu body has to be created to certify products, manufacturers and restaurants as shuddh.
