The Kroger Family of Stores is recalling spinach items across 15 states in the US, as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The product being recalled is Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach 10 ounce packages (UPC: 0001111091649) with a 'best if used by' date of 16 September. Kroger noted that the product was supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods.
This stores from which product is being recalled is - Kroger stores in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, central and eastern Tennessee, and Michigan.
Other locations include Kroger, Jay C, Owen's, Pay Less, Scott's and Food 4 Less stores in Indiana, Illinois and eastern Missouri; and Dillons, Baker's, and Gerbes stores in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Kroger has removed affected items from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system. The company is placing signs in stores in produce departments and is alerting consumers who may have purchased the products.
Kroger is asking customers to carefully check their refrigerators for this recalled Fresh Selections.
Any opened or unopened products included in this recall should not be consumed and should be returned by customers to their local Kroger store for a full refund or replacement, the company said.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness. Listeriosis can lead to high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
