Three leading Scottish meat processors Scotbeef, Scotch Premier Meat (SPM), and Mathers plan to merge their respective activities and establish a new meat plant in Inverurie, Scotland.

The new meat plant, which will be located at Thainstone Agricultural Centre, will be aimed at safeguarding and developing the meat processing sector in the region.

It will offer primary processing services for farmers, retailers, export, independent butchers and other customers.

Initially, the new company will run the current SPM and Mathers operations, before they are consolidated at Inverurie.

The management noted that while the intention is to retain as many of the positions as possible, some jobs are expected to be lost. Consultations will be held with the 230 employees.
