Kilwins Quality Confections has recalled all 7-ounce packages of Sugar Free Peanut Butter Fudge in the US over Salmonella contamination.
The products subjected to recall bear bar code 000648, lots 67936, 67105, 66959, 66413, 66248, 65123, 63124, 62693, 62612, 61658, 61621 were sold in Kilwin's retail stores between 1 October 2011 and 5 October 2012.
The products come in either a light beige box with a small window area, or a black and white box with a small window area and a yellow sicker across the top corner that states "Sugar-Free".
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product till date.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis or arthritis.
