Four Seasons Diary, a US-based food manufacturer, has announced the recall of its herring product over Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The company issued a voluntary recall of its Fillet Atlantic Recipe in Oil after Listeria was discovered in a sample of the product.

The products subjected for the recall include products with the expiration date 12/11/12, packed in a 1 lb/ 500 g clear plastic tub with a white plastic lid.

Consumers who have purchased the product with the above mentioned date are requested to either dispose or return it to the retailer.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can be particularly serious in pregnant women, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women risk miscarriage or stillbirth.
