New Jersey wine and spirits wholesale industry executive Richard Leventhal was inducted into the George Washington Spirits Society and received the Guardian of His Spirit Award at an October 10 gala event held at Historic Mount Vernon, George Washington’s Virginia estate. Leventhal is Chairman and CEO of Kearny, N.J.-based Fedway Associates, Inc., and a long-time member of the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) board of directors.

“Richard Leventhal personifies the longstanding, personal commitment wine and spirits wholesalers make to philanthropic, charitable and social programs. From supporting local organizations to investing in higher education opportunities for students, Richard demonstrates the importance of responsible corporate citizenship and personal charitable giving,” WSWA president and CEO Craig Wolf said. “Richard is an industry leader and WSWA is proud to see him honored for his work on behalf of our industry and as a philanthropist.”

The Guardian of His Spirit Award was presented by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) to commemorate the “noble traits and high standards” exhibited by the nation’s first chief executive. Each recipient was also inducted into the George Washington Spirits Society. Leventhal was honored along with Robert M. Selby, president and CEO of Kappy’s Fine Wine and Spirits, a Massachusets-based retailer, and James C. Rees IV, president and CEO of Historic Mount Vernon.

“WSWA is proud to have worked alongside DISCUS and other organizations to help reestablish a replica of General Washington’s distillery and related facilities on the grounds of Mount Vernon and to support events like this gala which saluted the leadership of Richard, Robert and James.
