Assocom-India's baking institute construction likely to finish next year

Assocom-India under the patronage of AIB International School of Baking is likely to complete the construction of Assocom Institute of Baking Technology & Management (AIBTM) early next year.

The institute is coming up at Greater Noida, National Capital Region, and will have confirmed international collaboration for confectionery and sugar art.

According to a press release, Assocom-India has plans to develop the institute as a leading brand in education, training, investigation & research in bakery, biscuits, cookies, milling and allied food technology, as a knowledge centre, and a centre for development of manpower for all segments of operations in the food industry.

The release adds, Assocom-India along with AIB International School of Baking has been committed to supporting the growth of the bakery industry in India through professional training. "By providing an opportunity for interested persons to learn the science and technology of baking, we hope to obtain a critical mass of proficiency that will allow bakery owners and managers to create new products, improve the quality of existing products, and assure that the bakeries are operating at lowest possible costs."

The training will help: Increase variety of bakery products available - some more nutritious and others more indulgent; Increase employment opportunities as the industry grows; and Control pricing through reduction of costs rather than government regulation.

According to Raj Kapoor, chief executive, Assocom-India, the programmes offered at the institute will cover Bread baking; Flour confectionery, including cakes, pastry, sweets, items for fast food; Biscuits and cookies; Bakery management and supervision; Short courses on flour milling; Extruded products; Food safety & quality management; Bakery engineering and maintenance; Laboratory practice and testing; Basic skills in science and language / terminology related to bakery operations; and Management skills for bakery businesses, like costing, HR, marketing and sales.
